“Mom… this is your trauma, that you kept wrapped up in countless colorful blankets and yet unknowingly handed over to me in a loving embrace. I will carry it with care”. – Peter Pflügler
Through this project I attempt to delve into the intricate and interconnected threads of family history, focusing on the lives of three generations. I try to trace how the experiences, both spoken and unspoken, of those who came before continue to resonate and influence the lives of those who follow. The narrative reveals how the personal and collective histories of the past shape the present, creating a ripple effect that transcends time. At its core, this project is about the transmission of inherited traumas—how the struggles, pain, and unvoiced stories of one generation are passed down from grandmother to daughter to granddaughter. It examines how these emotional burdens are carried across time, often unacknowledged, and how the newer generation grapples with them, striving to understand and, ultimately, overcome the challenges that have been inherited. Through this exploration, I endeavor to create a compassionate look at resilience, hope, and the ongoing quest for healing within my/ the family, showing how each generation faces its own battles while trying to break free from the shadows of the past.
