THE GOSPEL OF SUFFERING | Mariam Kapanadze

My photography delves into the complex relationship between existential fear, religion, and the development of human nature. Through surrealism, I explore how these forces shape our identities and influence the way we see the world. As I continue to grow as a photographer, I am deeply focused on understanding the layers of the human psyche, particularly the role of the superego in shaping our thoughts, actions, and interactions. My work is a journey of self-discovery, an attempt to visualize the unseen forces that govern our lives.  This is why I called my photo series The Gospel of Suffering, inspired by the works of Kierkegaard. His exploration of anxiety, despair, and the contradictions within faith resonates with the themes I confront in my images. Through my lens, I explore the intense fears and anxieties that define much of the human experience.

About the author: Mariam Kapanadze

I am Mariam, a self-taught photographer from Georgia. As a beginner, my work is deeply driven by my own existential fears. I believe that photography is not just a medium for creating images, but a way to express and confront inner emotions. For me, each photograph is a direct reflection of my own struggle with fear and the human condition. My photos are born from the very essence of this fear, portraying how it shapes our perceptions, thoughts, and reality.
